Love this bar! It is the perfect amount of dive for me. The look in here is very old school, with an old wooden bar and one little pool table squeezed in. There are also enormous windows that give a great view of the lake. I don't think that the drinks were too pricey here. I don't entirely remember. The bartender was cool and took shots with us though, which I appreciated. This place seems to be a pretty popular local hangout. I don't know about the food, but from what I hear they have it. This is a place to drink beer and hang out with friends. The drinks are fairly cheap and the atmosphere is casual.

A Good place to grab a beer, friendly staff and good selection but this place is a dive.

Just visited Harpoon Willies yesterday. We are not from the area and obviously want to have good meals that aren't extremely pricey. The place was pricey for the amount of food which they provide. Considering the amount I paid for the baked rigatoni bolgnese I only received approximately 15 rigatoni noodles (in their defense the noodles were on the bigger side) but still not a lot of food. It did not have a lot of flavor and the meat in the dish was slim to none. I also ordered the sangria which was apparently on special, our waiter said that he is a "sangria snob" and that it tasted very good to him. I am pretty sure it was straight from a bottle and if you going to charge $8+ for a sangria it shouldn't be from those cheap bottles of pre-made sangria. I was not a fan of the flavor and wouldn't suggest to order this to anyone. Our server was very nice and I'm sure we just have different tastes, no fault on his part. As for my poor boyfriend he ordered the chicken panini. He seemed to enjoy it and finished the entire thing. We went back to our hotel and went to sleep an hour or so later. Approximately 2 hours after that he is throwing up uncontrollably for 45 minutes. I don't know if the chicken was not cooked right or if something else on the plate had something wrong with it but this has never happened to him before. He didn't get something that he never eats or something extremely spicy or different. I can't say with 100% certainty that it was their fault, but once again highly suspicious. If you're looking for affordable, good quality food I would keep searching. 2 stars because (it won't let me do 2.5) I finished my food, though not much flavor (plus I was starving), bad sangria, pretty good chicken panini with possible food poisoning, decent atmosphere/decorations, pretty scenery from the outside area. Pretty good service, friendly server.

We visited Harpoon Willies today. We actually still here. I had the portabella and swiss burger. The burger was cooked perfectly, but the mushrooms were a little soft like they were canned. My boyfriend had the brisket sandwich. It was dry. It even looked dry. I would never put meat that looked like that on someone's plate. And the bun was wet. Their clam strips were awesome. I'd order those again.

Stopped in during a motorcycle ride on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. They had a shortened menu for the riders. The food was cold and not very good. I'm thinking they were just overwhelmed with a group of our size. Would love to give this place another shot as The place itself was super cute, overlooking Lake Geneva.

Had a terrible experience here. The staff is very unprofessional and rude. Also very over priced food. Would not reccomend going here

Great place. Their smoked BBQ pulled pork was outstanding! Good service and nice selection of local beers. Only complaints were slightly undercooked calamari and it would have been nice to split meals for customers. But then again, wouldn't stop us from coming back, because all else was great.

I spent summers, weekends and holidays in Williams Bay for more than 20 years, and after several years away, I ventured back to my favorite summer locale. Writing this review, I am still in shock that I did not once set foot in Harpoon Willies once during those many summers in WB. Not only is it a short(ish) walk back to my family's house, but it is my favorite kind of dive(y) (dive-ish?) bar: football playing in the background, a mixed crowd of locals and visitors, old school beer signs, and of course, a large boat hanging from the ceiling. They have your typical pub menu -- burgers, pizzas, and the like, with a few veggie options. Would highly recommend this pub to grab a beer with friends and family.

Absolutely terrible experience. We get there hoping there was air conditioning (it was July, kind of an expectation for a bar), and it was sweltering. Maybe that's there tactic to get people to drink faster. The bartender, Luke (I think?) was completely unprofessional and unkind. He refused to give water to some people (again it was beyond hot). Everyone was either there to drown their sorrows or just be in a bad mood. Indicative of the atmosphere. First time there and we'll be sticking with 290.

BOMB-DIDDILY Raw oysters, fried clams and shrimp pizza. Everything was delicious and fresh. Our waiter was friendly and welcoming. Beautiful breezeway and lake view.

We have eaten here a few times, they have great burgers and great sweet potato fries. Make sure to sit outside in the screened in porch there is a nice few of the lake.

    Life changing cheese sticks.

Great tasting Burgers and darn good waffle fries. Friendly Service a nice bonus. Not the fanciest place and if u can avoid prime time and sit outside you'll have a nice view.

I love the Shrimp Pizza and also the Willie salad! Every bartender I have run into at Harpoons has been personable, but Shiloh and Jesse are amazing! The bar is a 'bar' with nautical ambiance and lots of windows facing Williams Bay on Geneva Lake with lots of opportunities for people watching. Harpoons is one of those comfortable places worth the drive- like going to Cheers!

Came for lunch and drinks. Jessi the bartender was very personable and awesome. Would definitely recommend Thai bar/restaurant!

I was about to give them a 3 star rating - but then I remembered the AMAZING margherita pizza I had. The waiter let us in on a not so little secret - they get a lot of their food from the fancy schmancy restaurant next door. And, you can tell because it's not your typical bar food. The crust was perfect and the it was one of the best margherita pizzas I have ever had. There are not a whole lot of frills at Harpoon Willies. But, you don't go there expecting that either. The bartenders are friendly. The drinks are priced just right. And, I have had many fun nights in Lake Geneva with friends here. This is typically our go-to place. Looking for a casual bar to throw a few back with some friends? This is the perfect spot.

Anytime I make it to Lake Geneva I always stop here for a bite to eat, especially during the spring/summer months so I can sit on the porch and feel the breeze coming off the lake. The food here is great and the prices are decent. Staff are always friendly and give great service. I've been here with a group of friends on more than one occasion and have always received fast and prompt service. I definitely recommend stopping here to eat.

Love this place. Best burgers in 50 mile radius. We stop here at least once a year. Never had a bad meal yet. Nice view of Lake Geneva to boot.

I was here for lunch with a co-worker and I had the blacken tuna sandwich. I asked for coleslaw instead of potato chips. . On the menu it said it was prepaid rare but what I got was almost fully cooked only a slight hint of rare in the center overall taste was very good and fresh. However, there wasn't much red pepper pesto so I had to ask for more and the side of coleslaw was in a dressing side container. I wish I would have had more of that. After eating the whole thing I was still hungry, and craving more. It was well priced but I hate leaving hungry and the waitress was so slow. But in her defense I think she had the entire patio outside and should have had help

I'd say Harpoon Willies is the bar equivalent of that drunk extended family member who you don't WANT to be at Thanksgiving: when they inevitably show, you suck it up and try to have a good time, anyway. Harpoon is not your first stop of the night, and if it's your last, it's because you drank too much beforehand. The drinks can be overpriced, but if you manage to get there when they have deals on shots or beer, you can end up saving a bit of cash - it's all about how you play the bar. I will hand it to them, though, their popcorn is better than any other bar I've eaten at (including my campus favorite, Burrito Loco). My friends and I ended up having somewhere around 5 bowls of popcorn, alone, which made the bottom-of-the-bottom-shelf booze somewhat tolerable and the creeps who wouldn't leave us alone forgivable. If you're in the Lake Geneva area, however, and you HAVE to go out in Williams Bay, stick to Pier 290. Unless Harpoon Willies is packed (which is so very rare), it's nothing to write home about.

The food was actually ok, but I will never go back. The service was absolutely the worst. The servers were just kids, so they didn't even care...they just wanted to chitchat at the bar together. They were slow, forgetful, and they were unapologetic about spilling an entire beer on my mom's purse that was next to her chair. Didn't even help clean up her stuff and left the puddle of an entire beer next to her chair in the middle of the restaurant. A server spilled at another table later and left it, seating a new table in a giant puddle. The problem is that this place, while not exactly fine dining, is still a decent restaurant with decent prices.

Fantastic Place!!!! Service is wonderful. It does get busy during the weekend and can get crowded but it is worth the wait for what we get. We usually get the Thin Crust Pizza with Alfredo Sauce and Grilled Chicken. It is the BEST Pizza we have EVER had. The crust is cruncy, the chicken has a char grilled taste and the Alfredo sauce is sooooo creamy!!! We can't get enough of it!!!! A Woo Hoo to the Willie!!!!

Went in on Sunday with a friend on a girls trip. Big mistake if you're not a regular you're not getting served unless you beg. Went back on Monday there was a girl bartending was she pleasant to the only other females in the bar ??? Nope!!; never going back?!!

    (1)
  • Katie R.

We had a blast here. We came for a quick getaway from Chicago in November, so it was during the offseason and the bar was full of regulars and the comfort food was yummy and delicious. The bartender was lovely and she knew her football! P.S. It was happy hour when we got there, so every time you ordered a drink you got to pick a pull tab from a pitcher to see if you got a discount!

It's not like you walk into Harpoon Willie's, look around and expect a gourmet experience. It looks like a bar with bar food, and that's what you get, bar food at a bar. I ordered my salad with "raisins on the side," They ALSO put them in my salad, sigh. The popcorn chicken was so hard, it was almost impossible to stab with a knife. The pizza is surprisingly good, my dinner companions, noted. The Lobster Claw offers entertainment for all.

Nice food, great staff and across the street from the lake. I really enjoyed sitting at the bar getting to know locals and others in town for the weekend while staying in Lake Geneva. One of those towns people have been going to for years as a kid and long after which always leads to these kind of hero bars!

Went here last night (just like almost every Wednesday in the summer) with a group of 6. My friends had already seated themselves at a large table on the screened in patio, and our usual waiter, Francisco, asked what I wanted to drink when I passed by him in the bar. Two of the girls ordered the salads with grilled salmon, another ordered the Willie salad with grilled chicken, and I ordered the mini Toscana salad which has blackened chicken. My lettuce was a little wilted but the salad still tasted absolutely delicious. The two guys had a Willie salad and chicken tenders. The Willie salad has raisins and walnuts, and they make a homemade honey dijon dressing that's my favorite. The food prices are very reasonable but my favorite wine by the glass, their pinot noir, is a bit pricey at $9. We enjoy the bar atmosphere but don't eat greasy bar food so Harpoons, as we call it, works for us.

Solid pub grub. Went "into town" for a bite to eat and this looked good based on the large screened in porch. Seated promptly in the bar area, service was quick and friendly, food was decent. I ordered the Geneva St. Burger with waffle fries. Burger was messy once the sauce was added, and the bun could not withstand the burger. Sauce was a chipotle type dressing which in my opinion did little to enhance the sandwich. Waffle fries were tasty. Portions were appropriate. Decent. I'd go back.

A total local, dive bar complete with a moderately friendly bar tender, $2 grab your own lobster game, and free popcorn from a real popcorn machine. No drink menus or fancy martinis here, but if you stick with classic drinks you'll have a good time. My cosmo was only $6. They didn't get that 4th star because when I went all their taps were broken and they stop serving food pretty early. We arrived a little before 10pm and were out of luck. The music also kept getting louder and louder the longer we stayed, but if you'd like to experience some locals and have a quick drink, this is a decent place.

Well friends, the lobster claw is gone--or perhaps just out of season. Nonetheless, Harpoons holds up as a fine institution for gathering with friends for a beer. I'm still a fan of the nautical atmosphere and they've recently installed a number of flat screen TVs for our sports watching pleasure--quite convenient during March Madness. The only concern is that food is hit or miss. I ordered a medium rare hamburger and received a well-done, slightly burnt one instead. That said, I've enjoyed their pizza and salads--so you have to know what to go for. I recommend stopping in to try it out.

I had their pizza wich was very exspensive for some pizza! Thier mozzerella sticks were some kind of spring rolls with cheese...gross texture. The pizza was over run with tomatoes wich tasted like they just opened a can of walmart special of the day canned awful-ness and dumped it on my pizza along with a jug of oregano..wich overwhelmed the taste of everythin else . bill for the large cheese, mushroom, sausage pizza and mozz-sticks-46.00..seriously?...for crying out loud i could have frozen pizza shopeed myself to death for that amount..and it would have tasted better

I've had good burgers here before and the pizzas looked good but my wife and I were both unhappy after a recent visit. I ordered a french dip sandwich and my wife had a fish sandwich. I always look before biting so I took the top of the bun off and recognized that a whole bunch of work was needed before I put what was in front of me into my mouth. By the time I finished picking fat off the sandwich, there was barely a single layer of meat to cover the bottom of the bread. Some pieces of "meat" were 100% fat only - solid pieces of fat were placed on my sandwich. When I was finished, I had a pile of fat the size of a 12" softball off to the side on my plate. The waitress did ask how my sandwich was but, a proper question would have been a comment "I'm sorry - was all that fat on your sandwich??? I'll get you another one..." I don't bother complaining about something that unacceptable - I just don't go back. As a side note, my wife's fish sandwich was half-decent. By that I mean that one half was rubbery and the other was pretty good. Now, I realize that some folks like fat but - I'm not one of them. Unless the lights were out in the kitchen and/or the chef was blind, the sandwich I was served was totally unacceptable.

Love the wings and Harpoon Willie Sauce. Can't go wrong with any of the pizza's. They are not bar pizzas at all, instead you will find more chef style pizzas that are made from scratch. At least that's what it seems like.

this is a bar with fair to mediocre bar food.....burgers with corresponding chicken equivalents....filled with flatlanders in the summer coming over from the beach.... don't go expecting a rare find....just somewhere to fill your tummy...would recommend Skippers down the street as a better local alternative...or go to the Public House across the street and stick to the lower end of the menu....

It's a bar - with food. Nothing more, nothing less. The fish sandwich was ok, as was the pasta salad that came with it. Burger was ok - but the waffle fries have a ton of spicy seasoning on them - which they don't tell you about on the menu or when you order. Stick to bottled beer - both offerings we got on tap were flatter than I was as a 12 year old. The chairs on the patio are your only option if you don't want to smell like smoke, and they are the incomfortable $5 patio plastic things. I wouldn't go back here given the other options around.

Harpoon Willies has good burgers and a decent selection of beer. I go there when I want a quick burger and beer. It is relatively inexpensive with the burger costing only about $8. However, they only give you a small bag of chips and the fries are like a dollar or so extra. The patio is nice (smoke free) in the summertime and provides great views of Williams Bay. Unfortunately, the inside is all smoking and has terrible ventilation. Thankfully Wisconsin passed a no-smoking law that will take effect in 2010.
